OK, So Obama Won, Now What John?

I waited for a while to record this video. I really wanted to have something to say other than the stuff you keep hearing from others. You know that the Obama victory was an amazing thing for me to watch as a supporter of the campaign. But the overwhelming feelings after the victory, I may not have been ready for.

We all have seen the tearful joys of a nation and even the world at large, but I just wanted to have something else to add to that. Something that was personal to me and something I felt worthy to share with my friends and watchers of the vlog.

Ah, John, you’ve drawn me out for one of my somewhat rare political comments.

Definitely genius use of “new” media by Barack Obama and his campaign, he should be applauded for it. There is a good amount of purity to it as you’ve said too. Hopefully he/they do keep this up.

Don’t look for the purity to always remain though–Republicans (and for that matter any Democrat who would dare to challenge him for the 2012 nomination) are going to co-opt the tactic, take everything the Obama campaign did throughout, re-invent it and improve upon it. Hopefully social media stays somewhat pure over the next 2-4 years so that we will all still be able to see through any impure use of it.

I agree w/you over the honeymoon period, but I don’t think that’s going to last very long…I’m talking weeks here, hell, maybe just another couple of days, never mind til the inauguration. I especially remember the 9/11 honeymoon too, and that fizzled quicker than I expected. It always happens.

Think of the most popular and beloved Presidents of the 20th Century–I’d say we’re talking about FDR, JFK, and Reagan — those three guys not only always had 40-49% of the population against them, they were the part of the population who absolutely diametrically opposed their views, their general politics, and often borderline hated these guys. I hate to say it, but this won’t be any different.

It’s going to be interesting to watch though–I totally agree that this is poised to be a unique Presidency. I’m curious to see how it’s handled the first time Congress revolts against him and what occurs when international issues are at stake. And I don’t mean to sound so negative, but unfortunately, negative occurrences are what so often define a Presidency.

I try to keep the most positive spin possible on my own world views, in fact, try is the wrong word because that comes natural, but I can’t help but to become the biggest cynic going when it comes to politics from either side of the aisle.

Ah, that felt good, haven’t spouted off anything politically related in quite some time…used to do it too much until I noticed my views had become corrupted. Now back to regularly scheduled e-commerce voicings!
