eBay.com 2nd Quarter Down -4% Q/Q – Best Match Changes Are Failing Miserably

Pin ItToday eBay released the 2nd quarter earnings. Banter was raised as eBay Inc. has a 6% increase over last year and Paypal has some strong earnings for the quarter…yippee, "whoop d sh*t". Sorry if you don’t find me too impressed. There is holes in this Swiss cheese and the real deal is this. eBay.com that’s the US marketplace is down from 6% growth in the first quarterly to a tiny 2% this quarter and overall down -12% from 2008. So they have suffered a -4% decline on the platform, had NO growth in ASP and zero performance with conversion. The patron saint of...

The Revitalization of eBay: CEO – John Donahoe Speaks

Pin ItSo this video was originally aired on March 10, 2010 from Fortune Brainstorm Tech and really parallels sentiments I shared in my “eBay Ellen” post earlier. This is worth a listen if you are still scratching your head about the direction of eBay. Get it from the leaders mouth and try to grasp it. He is on a direct path and you and I need to understand it so we can optimize for the new changes. I was FLOORED by some statements, AWAKEN by other comments and DELIGHTED with other things. If you got 30 minutes, this is time well spent. You can probably skip the first 5 mins, cause...

HOT! ICEVideo Recap: eBay On Location – Atlanta 2010

Pin ItSo here is the ColderICE video as we were given behind the scenes access thanks to RBH and eBay Ink Blog. This first kick off of  eBay On Location held in Atlanta last weekend was fantastic!  Check this out for interviews with the CEO and the President also some other great spots. Here is what is really crazy … when I first heard about this I wrote this blog post back on July 14 of 2009 and it is amazing how "spot-on" this commentary ended up being…. "Being smaller would possibly allow more input from ALL sized sellers, not just those in Diamond or...

eBay On Location (Atlanta) : ColderICE Event Review

Pin ItMost often after an event, the blogger will come on and give you some notes on the event. Usually you will read that Mr. So and Such did this presentation followed by Mrs. What’s Her Face who took the stage to teach on blah blah blah. So guess what?!? I will NOT do the same o’ spill…go figure right? LMAO. OK, my take on this is going to be completely centered around the atmosphere and the vibe I got as I attended it.  Starting early morning on Friday I arrived at the hotel. There was suppose to be a meet and greet from 11 am – 4 pm so I wanted to get there and...

eBay CEO John Donahoe Gives Interview to UK Publication

Pin It Just in time for the love fest of Valentines day John Donahoe, chief executive of eBay has a new interview with the UK publication Times Online. This is a very candid look at the 49 year old Donahoe not seen before in print. Some notable quotes from the piece… But numbers count, and after a slump in performance, eBay is moving forward again. The business’s fourth-quarter results, announced last month, were better than expected and at last eBay has extracted itself from Whitman’s controversial purchase of Skype, the internet phone firm. And best of all, Paypal, its web-based...

Is eBay Pulling a Rope-a-Dope Or Just a Dope? LMAO

Pin It Dude, the numbers from the 3rd quarter of 2009 were VERY telling. We are a seeing the grip of fear beginning to ease. The consumer is spending and they are spending everywhere….except eBay. Do you recall the past? Lets go back to the storied sports history of 1974. A young man named Cassius Clay has changed his name to Muhammad Ali. It is October 30, 1974 and the soon to be crowned "king of all grills", George Forman is whipping Ali’s ass! However Ali has a strategy, he is using a "rope-a-dope". Ali starts to lie back on the ropes and lets Forman swing...

Should John Donahoe’s Picture Be On the Wall Street “Wall of Shame”?

Pin ItHow does the "street" feel about John Donahoe? With Donahoe’s inception to the thrown of eBay last year, the stock prices have fallen over 40%. While at the same time the S&P averages is down only about 29% and Amazon is up over 20% We pretty much know that the average seller wants his head on a platter with a side of fries. But what about stock holders? Do they really like the job he has done? Ultimately the CEO is beholden to the stock holders and NOT the platform users. Listening to this Mad Money take on the stock is interesting, BUT I am still on the fence...

Why eBay’s DSR + Best Match System Turns Off “REAL” Businesses

Pin ItK-I-S-S is The KISS principle. KISS is originally an acronym for "Keep it Simple, Stupid", or the more polite "Keep it Short and Simple". KISS states that design simplicity should be a key goal and that unnecessary complexity should be avoided. ULESS you work at eBay I guess? What eBay has done with the pile-on of rewards, ranking in search and placement of ads on top of an asinine DSR (detailed seller rating) system is beyond my ability to understand? Unfortunately I really do not have tolerance for pure ignorance. There is some kind of switch in my head that just...

eBay Analyst Day Notes – Part 1: I Am NOT Too Excited So Far?!?

Pin ItThis is impromptu, I just decided to turn on the screen and read it on the mic. I went to Scot Wingo’s blog and did this video over his notes. This is part 1 of my commentary on the eBay Analyst Day Notes. Damn man, I am not all that excited by what I have read in the opening notes… Recommend on Facebook Share on Linkedin Share with Stumblers Tweet about it Subscribe to the comments on this post Tell a friend...
