The Future of Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

This is an interesting video on where things could be going in SEO. This video features Rand Fishkin from SEOMoz. His thoughts are pretty insightful and I love his first point!

    Still not sure what ‘verticalization’ is . . . . .

So cool that you asked. Some people will read these posts and watch vids or interviews and just let stuff like industry vocabulary go completely over their head. We are very similar in that we ask the question. Screw the old saying about “it is better to be thought a fool…”

Verticalization is market segmentation by industry or anything really. (thats the short version LOL)

The basics of vertical marketing is a strategy well known to B2B (business to business) direct marketers, who often use precisely targeted direct mail lists to reach specific individuals with specific job titles who work in companies of a specific size within specific industries.

Good vid – interested in Scotts point on the social graph. I am studying social shopping sites like http://www.thisnext.com and http://www.tribesmart.com and I am sure in the future products and retailers which buzz on these sites will benefit in the eyes of Google. It makes sense that they start to factor this in down the line.

Search engine optimization will become a big business as many small businesses shift to online advertising. Many will come in clueless and will want to hire an SEO company to help them gain search rank.
